CONCORSO DI PROGETTAZIONE A PROCEDURA APERTA IN DUE GRADI ”PIAZZA LEONI A TORRECHIARA” | Trame del Paesaggio

Torrechiara è epicentro di un territorio vasto e rinomato nella Bassa Parmense che si riconosce nel suo landmark, il Castello con annesso Borgo medioevale, ma che è a sua volta riconosciuto a livello internazionale per la presenza di ambiti di grande valore paesaggistico, dalle colline coltivate a vite alle sponde del torrente Parma, habitat ideale per l’avifauna che lì sosta durante le rotte migratorie. L’attrattività dei luoghi ha assecondato in tempi recenti la nascita sul territorio di forme di turismo diverse, legate alla mobilità dolce e alla sostenibilità ambientale, che affiancano all’esperienza dei luoghi un’offerta enogastronomica di eccellenza. Non si possono dimenticare, infatti, il prosciutto di Parma e il lambrusco, che in questo lembo di terra trovano la loro culla.
Il progetto per Piazza Leoni “Trame del Paesaggio” prende le mosse da queste riflessioni.

L’idea di fondo è che la piazza non debba essere vista solo come l’anticamera al sistema museale del Castello, bensì come epicentro dei percorsi che si innervano nel territorio attraverso vigneti e cantine. Per questo nel disegno della piazza grande spazio è stato dedicato ad un sistema di alberature (Fraxinus Ornus) che agevoli la sosta e la conversazione all’ombra, con stalli per le biciclette, una fontana dell’acqua potabile e un nuovo pergolato destinato a valorizzare il vecchio glicine che tutt’oggi adorna la facciata dell’albergo Gardoni. La nuova piazza è stata concepita come uno spazio omogeneo dove l’apparente vuoto spaziale si traduce in un pieno funzionale che accoglie i più svariati modi d’uso.

Il progetto mira, infine, a rinsaldare legami oggi dimenticati. Un legame visivo e fisico con la Chiesa, attraverso una pavimentazione in mattoni di cotto a spina, dettaglio presente nel cortile d’onore del Castello, qui ripreso in omaggio ad un tradizione costruttiva propria di queste terre. Un legame ideale con il paesaggio circostante, da cui l’intuizione di trasportare nel disegno della piazza la geometria a linee parallele dei filari di vite che tratteggiano le colline tutt’intorno.
Trame del Paesaggio diventano, quindi, segni di progetto.

OPEN DESIGN COMPETITION IN TWO PHASES ”PIAZZA LEONI A TORRECHIARA” | Textures of landscape

Torrechiara is the epicenter of a vast territory in the Low Parmense area that identifies itself in the medieval Castle, surrounded by a well preserved original village, and in the high value natural environment it rises up on – from the near hills planted with vines, to the banks of the Parma stream, a perfect avifauna’s habitat for birds migration season. In recent years, attractivity of the place has favoured locally the growth of a different forms of tourism tied to slow mobility and environmental soustainability, that combines the experience of the nature with an excellent enogastronomical offert. We cannot forget, indeed, the Parma ham and the Lambrusco wine, hailing from these territories.
The project for Piazza Leoni titled “Textures of landscape” starts from these considerations.

The main idea is that the square cannot be seen just as the foyer of the Castle but it has to be considered as the epicenter of the paths that run through the territory crossing vineyards and wineries. For this reason in the project of the square a main role is played by the new trees (Fraxinus Ornus) – which facilitate spending some time talking in the shade – by the bike racks, the water fountain and the new arbour for the wisteria which already now characterizes the facade of the Gardoni hotel. The new square has been conceived as an omogeneous space where emptiness becomes full of functions.

Aim of the project, finally, is strenghtening forgotten connections. The “visual link” with the Church – guaranteed by the usage of a continous flooring in bricks, homage to the main courtyard of the Castle. The “abstract link” with the surrounding landscape – from which the idea to transfer the rows of vines inside the project using a parallel lines texture for the drawing of the flooring.
Textures of landscape become, hence, signs of project.
