CONCEPT PRINCIPALE DEL MASTERPLAN È IL FATTO CHE UN’INFRASTRUTTURA NON È SOLO UN ELEMENTO TECNICO MA PUÒ DIVENTARE ANCHE UN ELEMENTO FORTE DI ATTRAZIONE, UN LANDMARK, UN DISPOSITIVO GENERATORE DI URBANITÀ. QUESTA È LA FORZA TRAINANTE DELL’AREA DELLA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA CHE DIVENTA NON SOLO NODO DI COLLEGAMENTO TRA LA CITTà DI SEINAJOKI E I suoi immediati DINTORNI, MA ANCHE UNA NUOVA CENTRALITÀ DOVE CONVERGONO MOLTEPLICI FUNZIONI, SERVIZI, SPAZI COMMERCIALI E RESIDENZIALI.
IL PROGETTO ARCHITETTONICO INTRODUCE NELLO SKYLINE DELLA CITTÀ DI SEINAJOKI IL NUOVO SEGNO DEL LOOP, CHE È RICONOSCIBILE ALLA SCALA URBANA COME UN ELEMENTO DI CONTINUITÀ (IN QUANTO COLLEGA DIFFERENTI PARTI DELLA CITTÀ) E DISCONTINUITÀ (opponendosi ALLA LINEARITÀ DEI BINARI FERROVIARI). IL LOOP È UN ELEMENTO MULTIFUNZIONALE – ANELLO, PONTE, LANDMARK – CHE INTERAGISCE CON NON SOLO CON L’ASSETTO URBANO MA ANCHE CON LA SOCIETÀ. INFATTI, IL LOOP DEVE ESSERE VISTO COME UNA PROMENADE SOSPESA MA ANCHE COME SPAZIO PER EVENTI. E’ UN VERO E PROPRIO DISPOSITIVO URBANO CAPACE DI INFLUENZARE LE DINAMICHE DELLA CITTÀ MA al tempo stesso di ESSERE INFLUENZATO DAI MODI D’USO IN UN’INFINITITÀ DI modalità differenti. DA QUI IL TITOLO DEL PROGETTO: “SISTEMA A CIRCUITO CHIUSO”; IN AMBITO ELETTRONICO Esso IDENTIFICA UN SISTEMA AUTOMATICO NEL QUALE ALCUNI O TUTTI GLI OUTPUT DIVENTANO ESSI STESSI INPUT.
PERTANTO IL MASTERPLAN DEVE ESSERE INTESO COME UNO SCHEMA STRATEGICO PER UN ECOSISTEMA RELAZIONALE COMPLESSO IN CUI GLI SPAZI PUBBLICI SONO LA SPINA DORSALE DELL’IMPIANTO URBANO E CAMPO APERTO PER L’AZIONE DI DIFFERENTI TARGET DI UTENZA – CITTADINI, TURISTI, ASSOCIAZIONI LOCALI.

SEINÄJOKI, FINLAND | CLOSED-LOOP SYSTEM

The main concept of the masterplan is that an infrastructure is not only a technical element but it can become also a strong attraction, a landmark, a urban device. This is the driving force of the railway station area which becomes not only an hub for the connection paths between the city centre of Seinajoki and its immediate surroundings, but also a new versatile centre where multiple functions, commercial services and housing come together.
The architectural project introduces in the Seinajoki skyline the new sign of the Loop, which is recognizable at the urban scale as an element of both continuity (linking different parts of the city) and discontinuity (opposing the linearity of the railway tracks). The Loop is a multifunctional element – ring, bridge and landmark – interacting with the physical setup of the city and also with its social life. In fact it must be seen as a flying public promenade but also as a space for events. It’s an urban device able to influence the urban dynamics but also to be influenced by the practices in an infinite number of ways. Hence the title of the project, Closed-loop System. In electronics it identifies an automatic system in which some or all of its output are used as input.
Therefore the masterplan must be intended a strategic scheme for a complex relational ecosystem in which the public space has to be the backbone of the urban settlement and an open space of action for different target of users – inhabitants, tourists, group of action.
